Kurt Schroeder is a shareholder at Mathis, Marifian & Richter (MM&R), whose practice is primarily real estate law.
Kurt has represented real estate developers, financial institutions, hospitals, school districts, railroads, corporations and individuals in all aspects of real estate law involving commercial, industrial, agricultural and residential properties. With more than 20 years of experience, his real estate practice includes sales and acquisitions, tax deferred exchanges, leasing, real estate development, tax increment financing, zoning and land use, eminent domain, mineral rights and real estate litigation. Kurt has negotiated and drafted numerous contracts and documents for real estate transactions, and assists his clients with the resolution of title, environmental and governmental issues arising out of such transactions. In addition, he has successfully prosecuted many lawsuits involving such matters as lease disputes, zoning issues, and mechanics' lien claims.
Kurt's clients include American Water Works Service Company, Associated Bank, N.A., Chicago Title Insurance Company, Illinois American Water Company, Memorial Hospital, National Land Title Insurance Company, Southwest Illinois Health Ventures, Inc., Universal Air Filter Company and Wilke Window & Door Company, Inc.
Before joining MM&R, Kurt was a partner and associate for 15 years in the real estate practice group of one of the largest St. Louis law firms.
Kurt's broad and extensive experience representing national, regional and local clients in complex real estate matters has earned him the respect of his peers and clients alike.
Community Involvement
Kurt currently serves as president of the Belleville Township High School District 201 Board of Education, is an executive board member of the Lewis and Clark Council Boy Scouts of America and past president of the Okaw Valley Council Boy Scouts of America. He is an active member of Christ United Methodist Church and serves on its Finance and Long Range Planning Committees. He is the president and a director of Fire Support Ministries, which he helped establish in 2006 to provide chaplaincy services for fire departments of the community. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Belleville and for the past 14 years has served on the Memorial Hospital Foundation Annual Campaigns. Kurt has been a member of the St. Clair County Bar Association Pro Bono Program for the past 16 years and has served as an arbitrator for the 20th Judicial Circuit’s Mandatory Arbitration Program since its inception. He has served as vice-chair for the Professional Section Campaign of the United Way of Greater St. Louis-Illinois Division and is a past director of Junior Achievement of East St. Louis, Masterworks Chorale and the Abraham Lincoln Neighborhood Association.
Kurt has been recognized through the years by various organizations for his extensive community involvement. In 2006, he received the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Kimmel Community Service Award for outstanding leadership in Southwestern Illinois for his work in education, and in 2001, the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America bestowed upon Kurt the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to the youth of his community.
