Ms. Hegemier is a partner based in the Firm’s San Diego office. Her practice is focused on litigating appeals and writs for appellants and respondents in both state and federal courts. Ms. Hegemier has appeared extensively in the various Districts and Divisions of the California Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. She has represented clients on a wide variety of issues on appeal, including family law, real estate, governmental agency issues, breach of contract, construction defect, Anti-SLAPP motions, personal injury, animal law, complex business litigation, insurance litigation, employment law, product liability, intellectual property and many others.
Ms. Hegemier also provides consultation for trial counsel regarding post-trial motions and preservation of the record on appeal, drafting of jury instructions, analysis and evaluation of potential issues on appeal, and other assistance at any stage of litigation.
Ms. Hegemier started her legal career at Procopio Cory Hargreaves & Savitch LLP, in San Diego, as part of the Real Estate Litigation Team. She later became an appellate litigator and managing partner of Niddrie & Hegemier LLP and its successor partnerships. Her judicial experience includes the position of Senior Research Attorney at the California Court of Appeal, Fourth District Division One where she worked in Chambers for Associate Justice Joan Irion, and earlier in her career, as an Extern to Associate Justice William Todd.
Ms. Hegemier served as an adjunct professor in legal research and writing / appellate law at California Western School of Law from 2002-2005, as Program Chair of the San Diego Bar Association’s Appellate Courts Committee from 2007-2010, and as Vice-Chair of that Committee in 2011. She has organized and presented continuing education seminars through the San Diego Bar Association, Fisher & Phillips, LLP, and various other CLE providers.
Her active community memberships include the San Diego County Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Lawyers Club of San Diego, San Diego Women Attorneys Network, eWomen Network, Professional Women’s Fellowship, and Siberian Husky Rescue of Southern California.
