Jim moved to Fort Collins in 1979 from Lincoln Nebraska. He worked as a construction superintendent and project manager in residential and commercial construction for 17 years before deciding law was his passion. He attended Colorado State University and graduated summa cum laude, with a major in Economics, focusing on damages evaluation. Jim received his JD from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1995 and opened his practice in Fort Collins.
Jim has an exceptional perspective on construction law due to his construction background. He uses his experience to understand the needs of contractors, as well as clients who are building custom homes or commercial projects and dealing with defects in construction. Jim provides cost effective representation to contractors, subcontractors and owners in all areas of construction law, including contract drafting, mediation, arbitration and litigation. He takes pride in representing employees in all areas of employment law, including Workers' Compensation, discrimination, wrongful termination, severance packages and employment contracts. Jim served as lead counsel in a National Class action wage & hour case and changed the illegal practices of the online video game industry. While still in law school, Jim work as an economics expert on the Exxon Valdez litigation. He has an excellent appellate court record of success in Colorado, and is admitted to practice in both Colorado and Wyoming, in all Federal and State Courts.
Consistent with his desire to help victims of wrongful conduct, Jim has represented victims of negligent drivers, deceptive stock brokers, discriminatory employment practices, defective construction, and domestic violence. He represents people who have suffered serious injury, regardless of the whether the injury is physical or financial. He thrives on complex litigation matters and takes an aggressive approach to securing compensation for his clients. He maintains an active domestic relations practice, including divorce, child support, modification and custody matters.
