Cathryn C. Schmidt has been practicing law for over 15 years. She graduated from William Mitchell College of Law, cum laude, in 1994 and the University of Minnesota, with a B.A. in Political Science, in 1982. She is a partner at Swaden Law Offices where she has practiced family law exclusively for 12 years.
Shortly after law school, Ms. Schmidt clerked in the Civil Litigation Division of the St. Paul City Attorney's Office. She then began clerking for the Honorable Gordon W. Schumaker and the Honorable John S. Connolly, both in Ramsey County District Court. As Judge Schumaker's law clerk, Ms. Schmidt assisted him in the silicone breast implant insurance coverage case, a major declaratory judgment action filed in Ramsey County. Ms. Schmidt was also an Assistant Ramsey County Public Defender while maintaining a solo practice with an emphasis in Family Law.
Ms. Schmidt is a long-standing member of the Warren E. Burger Inn of Court, a group of attorneys and Judges with an emphasis on civility in the law. She volunteers both as a mentor and coach at University of St. Thomas Law School. She has been named a "Rising Star" by Minnesota Law and Politics and is an expert in matrimonial Law.
Ms. Schmidt has a proven track record as a successful family law attorney in the Twin Cities Metro Area. While the vast majority of her cases settle, she is an experienced trial attorney, in the event the case cannot settle and must be decided by a Judge. She is also certified mediator.
