Consumer protection lawyer Daniel Schlanger heads the consumer protection practice at Schlanger & Schlanger, LLP.

Dan joined Schlanger & Schlanger, LLP in 2007 after working as a staff attorney at Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, where he was a member of the Consumer Law unit and the founder of the Northeast Ohio Wage Project, a program which assists low-income people owed wages.

Dan received his law degree from Harvard Law School, cum laude, in 2004. Following graduation, Dan clerked for the Hon. R. Lanier Anderson, III on the United States Court of Appeals, 11th Circuit. He received his undergraduate degree from Carleton College, magna cum laude, in 1994.

As a consumer lawyer, Dan’s practice focuses on consumer protection issues.  He litigates regularly in both state and federal court in matters involving a wide range of consumer issues, including:

• Predatory Lending (including Truth in Lending Act [TILA] violations);
• Loan Fraud;
• Unfair Debt Collection Practices (including Fair Debt Collection Practices Act [FDCPA] violations);
• Debt Collection Harassment;
• Auto Fraud (including Auto Loan Fraud and Auto Warranty Fraud);
• Collection Defense (e.g. defending consumers being sued on unpaid credit cards and other debts)

He is the author of a three part series “Assisting the Consumer Debtor” published in One On One, the New York State Bar Association’s General Practice Quarterly Bulletin, and has acted as a panelist for the Civil Legal Assistance Resource Office’s CLE training on consumer protection issues .  He has also recently presented a well-attended National Association of Consumer Advocates webinar on consumer protection for the private practitioner

Dan is admitted to practice in both New York and Ohio (inactive status in Ohio). He is a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates, and the New York State, New York City and Westchester County Bar Associations. Dan is a former member of the New York City Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility Committee and a current member of the City Bar’s Civil Court’s Committee.  He currently serves on the National Association of Consumer Advocate’s Education Committee, and as co-chair of the Westchester County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Committee..

Prior to attending law school, he spent seven years working in sustainable agriculture, including five years as the owner and manager of a certified organic vegetable farm located outside of Sacramento.
