Alan E. Schiavelli received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The Cooper Union in 1981 and his J.D., with honors, at The George Washington University National Law Center in 1986.
His professional concentration in the intellectual property field has included patent prosecution in chemical and mechanical engineering as well as patent validity and infringement opinions, trademark availability studies and prosecution, and patent and trademark infringement litigation. Prior to joining the firm in 1986, he served as a patent examiner in the fields of metallurgy and semiconductor processing, 1981-1986.
His professional memberships include the American Bar Association, the Patent Lawyers Club of Washington and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He is also a member of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia where he chaired the PTC Section's Unauthorized Practice Committee, 1991-1993, served on the PTC Section's Council during the 1993-1995 term and served as Treasurer, 1995-1996.
He is admitted to the bar in Virginia and the District of Columbia and is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
