Tom Havens' practice is focused on the renewable energy sector. He has advised U.S. and foreign developers, investors, utilities, and other market participants on numerous transactions involving the acquisition, sale, development, construction, and financing of wind, solar, and other renewable energy projects.
Tom's recent experience includes representing E.ON AG in its acquisition of the North American wind energy business of Airtricity Holdings Ltd.; representing Developers Diversified Realty in its landmark agreement with SunEdison to deploy PV solar energy facilities at dozens of DDR retail shopping malls throughout the U.S.; assisting Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company in acquiring the rights to develop and construct the 100 MW OU Spirit Wind Farm in Oklahoma and in negotiating power purchase agreements with affiliates of Edison Mission Energy and Competitive Power Ventures for another 280 MW of wind power; and advising Chevron Energy Solutions in connection with the proposed construction, installation, and financing of PV solar energy facilities for large public sector customers in California.
Tom also has represented electric utilities, merchant power generators, and lenders in the acquisition and financing of nuclear, coal, and gas-fired electric generating facilities. He also frequently advises clients on U.S. federal and state energy-related legislation and incentive programs, including the loan guarantee program administered by the Department of Energy under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
