Schepers, Paul G.

In 1978, Paul Schepers graduated with honors from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN.
He received his law degree in 1982 from the University of Kansas School of Law. He graduated in the top 10% of his law school class and was awarded membership in the Order of the Coif.

Prior to joining Orrick & Erskine, Paul was a partner in the Kansas City law firm of Seigfreid, Bingham Levy, Selzer, & Gee where he practiced for over 27 years.
While with the Seigfreid / Bingham firm, Paul worked on a wide variety of complex
litigation matters and has argued scores of cases before the State Appellate Courts in
Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado as well as Federal Courts of Appeals for the First, Eighth, Tenth and Eleventh Circuits. Included in his appellate practice were lead roles in cases involving the constitutionality of Missouri’s Tax Increment Financing Statute and Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Kansas City’s status under Missouri’s Non-Profit Institutions Act. In 2005, Paul successfully persuaded the Kansas Supreme Court to reverse a District Court Judgment entered against the State of Kansas on a multi-million dollar damage claim arising from defects in the performance of a contract for the construction of the El Dorado Correctional Facility. 

In 1995, Paul successfully defended Marcus Allen in a nationally televised proceeding in which O.J. Simpson’s defense attorneys attempted to force Mr. Allen to testify in the Nicole Brown Simpson, Ron Goldman murder trial. At Orrick & Erskine, Paul applies his experience in complex litigation matters to all aspects of trial preparation, motion practice, as well as trial and appellate proceedings. In 2003 and 2004 Paul played an important role in representing Health Midwest in connection with a billion dollar sale of its hospitals and other health care facilities to HCA.  Paul shared responsibility with HCA’s counsel in securing approval of the transaction from the federal antitrust enforcement authorities.  He was also the primary draftsman of many of the briefs filed in lawsuits instituted by the Missouri and Kansas Attorneys General over control of the proceeds from the transaction.
