Jacob Houston Hargett was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana and is now a proud husband and father. He attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he received his B.A. in 2004, and went on to receive his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2006. Thereafter, he attended Loyola University College of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate.
While attending Loyola, Mr. Hargett served as the President of Loyola's Trial Advocacy Program and was a member of the Loyola Trial Advocacy National Team. In addition, Mr. Hargett was inducted into the National Order of the Barristers and was awarded the Blue Williams Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy in 2009.
After graduating from Law School, Mr. Hargett accepted a job with a large firm in Lafayette and worked there for several years. During his time there, Mr. Hargett handled several cases involving railroad accidents, medical malpractice, automobile accidents, workers’ compensation, products liability, slip and fall accidents and commercial and business disputes.
Mr. Hargett is currently a member of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He is licensed to practice in all Louisiana State Courts as well as in all United States District Courts for Louisiana. Mr. Hargett is also admitted to practice before the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Personal accomplishments:
Mr. Hargett is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys participating in clay target competitions. In college he was a multiple time All-American and went on to win the College World Championships in skeet shooting. Mr. Hargett also matched the individual world record in skeet by shooting a perfect 400 out of 400 targets in the 12 gauge, 20 gauge, 28 gauge and 410. He also tied the two-man team world record with a total score of 800 out of 800 targets. Currently, Mr. Hargett and his two-man team partner hold the high all around world record by shooting a total of 999 targets out of 1,000.
