James is a partner in Perkins Coie's Seattle office, where he tries, litigates and resolves disputes between employers and employees. James' practice includes major class actions, individual employment lawsuits, traditional labor and trade secret and noncompetition litigation. He also counsels employers on how to prevent employment disputes. James understands that litigation is overhead for employers. So he always looks first at how a dispute can be resolved in the quickest and most cost effective manner. When that doesn't work, he litigates for his clients with a fair but aggressive style that has consistently produced winning results.
Chair of the firm's Community Service Committee and a member of the firm's Hiring Committee since 2002, James is proud of Perkins Coie's nationally recognized ""No Jerks"" policy and he's worked hard over the years to help recruit the kind of lawyers that have made Perkins Coie one of FORTUNE Magazine's ""100 Best Companies to Work For"" for five years in a row.
James studied Rhetoric at Cal Berkeley before attending law school at the University of Chicago where he was Moot Court co-champ and a member of the Law Review. Before school, James worked in the wine business.
