In 1965 Sherwood Allen Salvan graduated from St. Francis College with a BBA in Accounting and a member of Alpha Kappa Psi; in l969 he received a JD from New York Law School and was a member of Dwight Inn; and in l970 graduated with Pace University with an MBA in federal taxation.
Sherwood Allen Salvan was admitted to practice law in the State of New York in 1969; the Eastern and Southern Federal District Courts of New York in 1972; the Supreme Court of the United States of America in l978; and Washington D.C. in l982.
Since being admitted to practice Law he wrote several articles which have appeared in the New York Law Journal, Judicature, Penn Bar Quarterly, Bronx Bar Association and other nationwide publications.
He was appointed as a Special Master in the Supreme Court of the County of New York, served as an arbitrator in the Civil Court of the New York, and Bronx County, served as an arbitrator in the Small Claims Court for the County of New York, and served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association on various panels. He was an Administrative Law Judge for the Environmental Control Board of the City of New York hearing noise and smoke pollution cases. He served on several committees of the American Judges Association from 1976 - 1981.
He was appointed to serve as the Chairperson for the New York County Lawyer Association Committee on the use of word processing; appointed by the Appellate Division First Department to the Central Screening Committee; and elected to serve as a Member of the Board of Directors of the New York Law School Alumni Association in New York City.
He was member of New York Law Associates and provided pro bono services for many community groups; co-authored a chapter while a member of the New York Associates on how to incorporate a not-for-profit corporation and has been included in various publications of Who's Who in America Law. He has lectured to various community groups on a variety of subjects and is on the Association of the bar of the City of New York's legal referral panel.
Since his admission to practice he has been the attorney of record on several matters involving substantial questions of law in the areas of labor law, criminal law, taxation, tort liability, apportionment, and corporate law. Many of these cases were ultimately argued in various appellate Courts within the State of New York and within the federal Courts within the State of New York.
He has extensive experience in civil and criminal trials and appellate matters, and he has been selected to the service of fiduciary by several justices of the Supreme Court in the State of New York. He has written articles on the use of technology in the legal profession, and he has served on several bar associations as the chairperson on the committee of information handling and research and served as a member of the judiciary committees at the New York County Lawyers Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
With more than 35 years of experience in general practice areas, and he qualified to understand the intricacies of prosecuting, and sometimes defending legal malpractice issues.
During the years of practice his cases have called upon him to present oral argument in many of the Appellate Courts within the State of New York and in the Federal Courts in the Second Circuit of the State of New York in diverse and substantial general practice areas.
Currently his practice is devoted to significant legal malpractice matters, complex transactional matters and general practice matters.
