Timothy J. Ryan joined the Massachusetts Bar in 1986.  Mr. Ryan has been actively involved in civil litigation matters throughout his career including employment matters, business litigation and personal injury. Attorney Ryan's practice involves other litigation matters, as well as an active real estate practice.

Mr. Ryan has a wealth of experience in employment law, personal injury law, contract and construction law, and local government.  Mr. Ryan has and continued to represent employers and employees with respect to counseling severance packages, negotiating severances, to the trial and appeal of various discrimination claims in both state and federal court.

Mr. Ryan has represented numerous parties brining personal injury claims as well as defending insurance companies against frivolous claims.  He has defended various claims on behalf of a local mass transit bus carrier.  He has seen these matters through trial as well as negotiated fair and reasonable settlements.

Mr. Ryan has an active real estate practice and has litigated a number of contract and construction claims relating thereto.  He has also represented large construction and engineering companies in contract interpretation claims.  Tim Ryan generally represents small to medium sized business concerns where management is focused on the dual concerns of results and costs. 

Recently, Tim Ryan has served as counsel to a Court Appointed Receiver of a 211 unit housing complex that ultimately needed to be closed due to gross housing code violations and insufficient operating revenue to operate the complex.    Tim Ryan worked with the Receiver, the tenants and the mortgage lender to bring this complex to closure. Tim Ryan has represented numerous companies in a variety of business or employment disputes in state and federal court.  Tim Ryan works closely with his clients to keep them apprised of the developments in any litigation, reviewing the potential outcomes and the costs involved.

Timothy Ryan served ten years as a member of the Springfield City Council from 1994 to 2003.  Tim Ryan served five terms on the Springfield City Council and during that time charted an independent and honest course with respect to issues affecting the City of Springfield, its residents and business owners. As a member of the Springfield City Council Mr. Ryan was closely involved in a variety of budgeting and finance issues involving day-to-day operations and long term bonding for the City of Springfield.
 
Mr. Ryan served as the Chairman of The Springfield Board of Police Commissioners in 2004-2005.  As Chairman, he led the effort to redeploy sworn police officers from the Police Headquarters to street patrols.  During his tenure, the Police Commission cracked down upon officers who were abusing sick time and injured on duty benefits.  As Police Commissioner he started the move towards the implementation of Com Stat intelligence directed policing, as well as the implementation and use of surveillance cameras in downtown or high crime areas.  Mr. Ryan had to mange these functions within the strict budget limitations imposed upon the Springfield Police Department.  In his capacity as a member of the Springfield City Council and the Chairman of the Police Commission, Mr. Ryan was intricately involved in the public sector cost and income budgeting in the tens of millions of dollars.  Additionally, he has worked with and in compliance with the Open Meeting Laws and the Freedom of Information Act.
