Sacco, Gary A.

John Hamilton is a former chairman and managing partner of Hale and Dorr. He also served as chair of the firm's Real Estate Department. Mr. Hamilton retired in 2004.

Practice

Mr. Hamilton represented developers, lenders, syndicators and investors involved in major office, retail, residential, industrial, hotel and mixed-use projects throughout the country and in Canada. In 1984, he was lead counsel for the purchaser of what was to that date the largest single assemblage of commercial real estate in Manhattan. He also represented the joint ventures that developed the Charles Square, 500 Boylston Street and 125 High Street projects, and the proposed development of a mixed-use project at the Fan Piers and the Yard's End Research Center at the Charlestown Navy Yard. He also served as counsel to Carpenter & Company, Inc.; Jamestown One Federal L.P.; and, on a pro bono basis, to the Walden Woods Project and City Year, Inc.

Professional Activities

Mr. Hamilton is a charter member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and is past chairman of the Real Estate Section of the Boston Bar Association. Mr. Hamilton served as an officer in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957.

Honors and Awards

Mr. Hamilton was named a "Massachusetts Super Lawyer" in the November 2005 issue of Boston Magazine.

Community Involvement

From 1976 to 2004, Mr. Hamilton was general counsel of the Boston Museum of Science and a trustee of the museum. He was a member of the Museum's Executive Committee and chaired its Diversity Committee. He is now a Trustee Emeritus. He was chairman of the City Year/Boston Board, chairman of the Executive Committee of the Boston Lawyers Group and co-chair of the Advisory Committee to the Pro Bono Institute's Large Law Firm Project. He is currently a director and treasurer of Massachusetts Biomedical Research Corporation, Chairman of the Board of Princeton Project 55, Inc. and a member of the Advisory Board of the Walden Woods Project. He has also been a trustee of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a member of the Concord Board of Appeals and the Board of Governors of the Concord Museum.
