Sabo, Alvin O.

John A. Hammerstrand is a graduate of the University of San Diego, School of Law. While in law school, he competed nationally as a member of the University of San Diego Men’s Volleyball Team and volunteered after Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast; working with the Mississippi Center for Justice and assisting in the clean-up and rebuilding of the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans, LA.

Mr. Hammerstrand also holds a bachelor's and master's degree in economics from San Diego State University. He completed his undergraduate education in three years and studied abroad at Oxford University. As a graduate student, he taught introductory economics as a Graduate Teaching Associate and was nominated for the Favorite Faculty Award by his students. His graduate thesis, which looked at the costs of education attainment, was titled "School Finance in California: A Look Into the Costs of Adequacy."

When he is not at work Mr. Hammerstrand enjoys a variety of recreational activities. He has over 20 years of flying experience, holds an Airline Transport Pilot certificate, and is recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Certified Flight Instructor. He also enjoys riding and restoring motorcycles, surfing, and hiking.
