Mark Hall is an experienced litigator whose practice is focused on product liability and toxic tort matters. He has defended clients against claims involving a broad range of products and industries, including automobiles and automotive components, tobacco products, chemicals, firearms, aircraft components, and lead paint. In his 19 years with Jones Day, Mark has developed special experience in working with expert witnesses to present complex technical and scientific proofs at trial. For example, Mark has extensive experience in working with experts to present complex statistical proofs in ways that will be understandable and interesting to jurors.
Mark currently is a member of the Jones Day team defending Mattel in a number of class action lawsuits arising from the sale of toys allegedly containing lead in excess of regulatory standards. He also has worked extensively on lawsuits arising from the recent wave of public nuisance and other tort litigation brought against various industries by municipal, county, and state governments and other plaintiffs arising from the sale of products such as tobacco, firearms, and lead paint. For example, he was a member of the Jones Day trial team that defended Colt's Manufacturing Company in the highly publicized trial of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People v. AA Arms, Inc., et al., Case No. CV 99-3999 (E.D.N.Y., J. Weinstein). The case was tried to a defense verdict, including a unanimous (12-0) advisory jury verdict of no liability as to Colt. The defense win in NAACP was selected as one of the top 10 defense verdicts of 2003 by The National Law Journal. Mark also has extensive experience in developing and implementing effective offensive discovery strategies and techniques to obtain full and complete documentary, electronic, and deposition discovery from governmental entities in the public nuisance/tort lawsuits brought by these entities.
Mark also has participated in the trial of numerous Firm cases as regional coordinating counsel and as trial counsel. He also has litigation experience involving environmental issues as well as general business and commercial disputes.
