I have lived in Colorado most of my life and am dedicated to serving individuals, families and small businesses in Northern Colorado. I have been dedicated to Fort Collins since I attended Colorado State University to receive a B.A. in Philosophy, graduating cum laude. I then attended the University of Denver School Sturm College of Law for my law degree. Folloiwing law school, I decided to study tax law, an area of law that many family law and banktupcty law practitioners neglect to their detriment. I studied for and obtained my L.L.M. in Taxation through the University of Denver Graduate Tax Program.
I've always preferred to pave my own path and run my own business - a characteristic that I bring to the practice of law. For example, before becoming a lawyer, I founded and ran a consulting business where I wrote briefs, motions, pleadings, and advice memos for lawyers. I helped several lawyers develop the theory of their case, and advised them strategically on how best to proceed for their clients. This helped me to understand how to be a lawyer, and I have operated my own practice from the day I was admitted to the Colorado State Bar.
My primary practice focus is on Family Law and Bankruptcy Law, though I will represent clients in other disputes from time to time (such as landlord/tenant, real property disputes, commercial contract litigation, and probate litigation). I find that keeping my focus on Family Law and Bankruptcy Law helps me to excel in those areas, and I better serve my clients in turn.
I believe solo practice lawyers and smaller firm lawyer do a better job of serving their clients, which is why I chose to remain solo. During my live, I have had the opportunity to observe the team-lawyer approach at large firms and find the whole process to be inefficient and unnecessarily wasteful of the client's money. As a solo-practitioner, I have the opportunity to meet my client, stay in contact with my client, and actually care about my client, while keeping my work efficient and saving my client some money.
