Dr. Yung-Hoon (Sam) Ha is a senior associate in the firm's Intellectual Property Department. He joined the firm in 2005. Dr. Ha’s practice is focused on high technology patent prosecution, patent litigation, and patent opinion work.
Practice
Dr. Ha has prepared and prosecuted U.S. and foreign patent applications in numerous high technology areas, such as carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, nanoscale devices, solar cells, solar concentrators, silicon wafer manufacturing, vapor deposition precursors, tracer compounds, block copolymers, polymer blends, and photonic crystals.
Dr. Ha also has extensive experience in patent litigation, including actions before the International Trade Commission and the district court. Dr. Ha’s recent patent litigations involve consumer electronics, such as flashlights, digital cameras, and wireless communication devices.
Dr. Ha has also been involved in providing numerous non-infringement opinions, numerous patentability assessments, and support for due diligence research.
Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Ha was a technical advisor and a patent agent at a law firm in Virginia.
Prior to his legal career, Dr. Ha was a postdoctoral research scientist/fellow at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC from 2002 to 2004. Dr. Ha has also served as a referee for peer-review journals in the area of polymer science. While pursuing his PhD degree at MIT, Dr. Ha served as a teaching assistant for the course “The Structure of Materials.”
