Bruce Graves is a member of BrownWinick and has practiced in the areas of federal income tax and business controversies and litigation. Bruce has litigated cases in the United States district courts in Iowa, the United States Tax Court and the United States Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D.C., as well as in the trial and appellate courts of Iowa. He has also prosecuted appeals in the Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and in the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. In addition, Bruce has prosecuted many administrative appeals for taxpayers who have received adverse Internal Revenue Service determinations.
Bruce is a longtime member of the American Bar Association's Sections on Taxation and Business Law, as well as the Iowa State Bar Association's Sections on Business Law, Litigation and Taxation Law. He also served on the Board of Governors of the Iowa State Bar Association for many years and was elected President of the statewide association for 2000-2001. Bruce has written many professional articles and spoken at both business and legal seminars.
In the course of his career, Bruce has served on the boards of directors of numerous business corporations, including a bank. In community affairs, he served as a school board member and a civil service commissioner, and Bruce has also been a board member and president of a local chamber of commerce, an economic development organization, and a downtown city club.
Bruce received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Omaha (now University of Nebraska-Omaha) and his J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law, from which he was graduated cum laude. Bruce was admitted to the Iowa bar in 1964.
