Riley Roby is a Partner in the firm's Montgomery office, where his practice focuses on transactional, tax, trusts and estates, administrative law and legislative matters for emerging and established businesses and individuals. He is a member of the firm's Real Estate, Lending and Commercial Practice Group.
With respect to transactional matters, Riley frequently advises businesses in the acquisition, construction, financing and development of retail, office and residential real estate developments, and he advises both borrowers and lenders on real estate development and construction lending matters. Riley also counsels clients with the structure and mechanics of various asset and stock purchase and sale transactions, mergers and acquisitions and selection and formation of business entities.
In tax matters, Riley counsels businesses and individuals on federal and state tax matters, including advice to nonprofit corporations on obtaining and maintaining tax exempt status and advice to individuals and businesses on state and local tax audits and related litigation. He also works with fiduciaries and beneficiaries on estate and trust planning matters and administration issues and disputes.
Riley regularly represents businesses on matters before numerous Alabama administrative agencies, including the Alabama Public Service Commission, Alabama Department of Revenue, Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and Alabama Licensing Board for General Contractors, in such businesses' efforts to comply with various Alabama laws and regulations.
On legislative matters, Riley often assists clients with their legislative initiatives, including drafting and monitoring Alabama legislation of interest to his clients.
Riley and his wife Martha have two young children, Margaret and George, who make going to the office each morning quite difficult. When spare time is discovered, Riley enjoys playing tennis, running and fishing.
