Laurie Susan Gorsline
Ms. Gorsline was born in San Bernardino, California. She attended the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) (B.A), 1981) and Loyola Law School, Los Angeles (J.D., 1984). She was admitted to the California Bar, the U.S. District Court, Central District of California and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit in 1986. After graduating from law school, Ms. Gorsline joined the Los Angeles Superior Court staff as a law clerk/research attorney to: The Honorable Charles Jones, Superior Court Judge, 1985, Law and Motion Dept.; The Honorable Robert H. O'Brien, Superior Court Judge, 1986, Law and Motion Dept.; The Honorable Ricardo Torres, Superior Court Judge, 1987-88, Writs and Receivers Dept. Ms. Gorsline was also Supervising Staff Attorney for the Law Departments for the Los Angeles Superior Court, Central District, in 1988. Deciding to go into private practice, Ms. Gorsline joined the Century City firm, Valensi, Rose & Magaram, PLC in 1988. In 1993, Ms. Gorsline left Valensi, Rose & Magaram so that she could develop her employment related litigation practice. Ms. Gorsline is now a partner in the firm of Ganz & Gorsline.
Ms. Gorsline has a wide range of experience in providing counsel to both employers and employees in employment matters (both litigation and pre-litigation), including wrongful termination suits, discrimination suits, sexual harassment suits (on behalf of the victim, employer, and accused harasser), drafting employment handbooks, severance agreements, documentation of personnel files, and the negotiation and settlement of employment disputes. Ms. Gorsline has been invited to speak on the subject of sexual harassment and discrimination before such groups as the Century City Bar Association, the Beverly Hills/Century City Legal Secretaries Association, the Internal Revenue Service, the Association of Real Estate Attorneys, and the Santa Monica School District. She has also been invited to speak by such institutions as Rio Hondo College and Loyola Law School.
The following is a sampling of employment related matters in which Ms. Gorsline was counsel: Age Discrimination (represented the plaintiff in an age discrimination case and obtained $7.1 million verdict); Wrongful Termination: Brinton v. TRW (represented the plaintiff in a breach of contract/wrongful termination case resulting in $2.5 million verdict); Songco v. Century Quality Management, Inc. (represented the plaintiff in a wrongful termination case resulting in $4.5 million verdict); Jaffe v. Intergroup Corp ($2.6 million settlement); Reported Cases: Hyatt v. Northrop Corporation, 80 F.2d 1425 (9th Cir. 1996). Discrimination harassment: has represented victims of illegal discrimination and harassment, resulting in seven figure settlements before trial.
Ms. Gorsline was a member of the Panel of Municipal Court Settlement Officers at the Beverly Hills Municipal Court. She is also a member of the California Women Lawyers Association, American Bar Association and Los Angeles County Bar Association. She is a member of the State Bar of California, including its employment and litigation sections.
