Matthew M. Gorman specializes in the fields of real estate law, land use litigation, redevelopment, and environmental law, representing clients in matters ranging from contract disputes, mechanics liens and construction law, land subsidence, hazardous material remediation, zoning enforcement, and redevelopment law.
Mr. Gorman's experience includes the representation of clients in a wide range of transactional matters, including negotiation of real estate and redevelopment agreements, negotiation of real property transactions, and representing clients in land use, housing, and environmental remediation matters.
In addition, Mr. Gorman has extensive litigation experience in the fields of land use entitlements, construction litigation and mechanics lien enforcement, environmental remediation, redevelopment disputes, and contract and business-related litigation. One of the few attorneys in California to have dealt extensively with California's statutes concerning Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation suits (or "SLAPP" suits), Mr. Gorman has been successful in utilizing the "Anti-SLAPP" statute in the context of real property and redevelopment disputes, and has represented clients in litigation involving a variety of real property, redevelopment, and environmental matters.
Further, Mr. Gorman specializes in the fields of environmental regulation and site remediation, having represented clients in proceedings before oversight agencies, as well as in litigation for recovery of remediation costs. Mr. Gorman has particular expertise in the field of underground storage tank removal and remediation, having represented property owners, contractors, and others on issues ranging from leakage-liability and government oversight, to defective removal and negligence claims.
Mr. Gorman is a graduate of Loyola Law School and successfully completed a year-long externship at the Land Use Division of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office where he served as the youngest member of a federal court trial team that defended the City against a consortium of national businesses seeking to invalidate zoning restrictions. He is a graduate of the University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, minor in Urban Geography, including extensive coursework in Chinese (Mandarin) and study at Fudan University in Shanghai, China.
