Having my own law practice is actually my second career. I worked for the Mt. Clemens Police Department for 22 years before retiring in 2004. While working full-time as a police officer I continuously attended college and obtained my Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement at Macomb Community College in 1983, my Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from Oakland University in 1988, and my Juris Doctorate (law degree) from Wayne State University in 1995. After passing the bar exam in 1995, I began my career as a part-time attorney while continuing to work full-time as a police officer.
During my police career I was promoted to sergeant and lieutenant before declining offers to become the Chief of Police on two different occasions for personal and career reasons. I worked years of road patrol duties and have made thousands of traffic stops and arrests. I have conducted hundreds of criminal investigations as a detective ranging from simple assaults to murder.
I also supervised the Youth Bureau and investigated juvenile crimes, supervised field-training officers, became a certified Breathalyzer operator, worked undercover details including preparing search warrants and conducting drug raids, and I've handled the administrative duties of running a police department.
I am also the father of two wonderful sons, who I spend a great deal of time with and admire. Having gone through a divorce with young children myself gives me insight as to what my clients are going through during such an emotional period of their lives. In addition to educating them on the legal aspects of divorce, I am also able to speak to my clients about personal issues and real life experiences that occur during the divorce period.
Overall, my years of experience as a police officer and my personal life as a divorced parent with children provide me with a unique background in my legal career. In addition to my years of education and training, it is my personal experiences as well that allow me to represent my clients to the fullest in each of their respective legal situations.
