Mike Gladman's practice focuses on complex civil litigation, with a particular emphasis on representing clients in litigation with governmental entities and in governmental investigations. He also has successfully represented clients in contract, tort, construction, bankruptcy, and securities disputes. Mike has appeared before numerous administrative agencies, trial courts, and appellate courts, including the Ohio Supreme Court.
Mike is currently representing several online travel companies in a hotel tax collection lawsuit brought by Ohio municipalities, and he is defending an electronic voting system manufacturer against multimillion dollar breach of contract claims brought by governmental entities. Recently Mike was part of a trial team that secured a judgment in the Southern District of New York on behalf of American Electric Power in a contractual dispute that resulted in a settlement payment of $263 million to AEP. Mike acted as lead counsel in successfully defending a challenge to a retirement system's authority to change its retiree health benefits to save approximately $70 million per year. He also obtained the dismissal of a multimillion dollar conspiracy claim against a printing company and obtained summary judgment dismissal of misappropriation of design claims against a tool manufacturer.
Prior to joining Jones Day, Mike served in the Ohio Attorney General's Office for nearly five years, where he was in the major appeals group and received the office's professionalism award. Mike also has served as an appellate advocacy adjunct professor at the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University.
