Since joining Jones Day, Paul has represented Firm clients in all aspects of complex tort and commercial litigation at the trial and appellate levels in federal and state courts across the country, with a principal focus on class action defense and product liability. Paul has represented (among others) R.J. Reynolds Tobacco in class actions and health care cost recovery suits by state attorneys general, unions, and foreign governments and in individual smoking and health cases; the Alderwoods Group and Security Plan Life Insurance in the defense of class actions involving thousands of holders of insurance policies and in the settlement of class actions alleging race discrimination in insurance premiums; Dole Food Company in the defense of class actions by foreign agricultural workers; and Bridgestone/Firestone in class actions arising out of product recalls. He also has substantive experience in the areas of consumer and accounting fraud, mass tort, and employment law. Through these representations Paul has developed extensive knowledge in briefing and motions practice at the trial and appellate levels.
Paul is a member of the bars of the United States Supreme Court; the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the First, Third, Fourth, Tenth, Eleventh, and D.C. Circuits; the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia; and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
Prior to joining Jones Day, Paul worked for Williams & Jensen, P.C. in Washington, D.C., where he had broad experience in the firm's legislative practice. He is a member of the ABA (Litigation Section).
