Tim Diemand is a partner in Wiggin and Dana's Litigation Department and co-chair of the Insurance Practice Group. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation, insurance coverage and reinsurance disputes, and professional malpractice defense. Tim acts as lead trial counsel for public and private companies in federal and state courts throughout the United States.
Representative cases include defending a reinsurer in a dispute related to a $1 billion asbestos settlement; acting as trial counsel for an insurance company seeking to recover $100 million in reinsurance for a large environmental settlement; defending an insurance broker in a multi-million dollar claim related to procurement of umbrella coverage; overturning on appeal a $20 million jury verdict (the then-largest award in Utah history) against a prominent Washington, D.C. law firm; and representing a national accounting firm in class action securities litigation and related government investigations related to the collapse of real estate investment company.
Tim graduated with a B.A. cum laude from Clark University and received his J.D. with honors from the National Law Center at George Washington University where he was a member of the Journal of International Law and Economics. Before joining Wiggin and Dana, Tim was an attorney with Patton Boggs in Washington, D.C. Tim is admitted to practice in Connecticut, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Tim is an active member of the Connecticut Bar Association and currently serves as the Chair of the CBA's Continuing Legal Education Committee and is a member of the Federal Practice Section's Executive Committee. Tim is a James Cooper Fellow. Also, since 2001, Tim has served as a regional board member for Lawyers for Children America.
