Brian Gaudet is a tax attorney with over 25 years of experience representing businesses, individuals and non-profit organizations in a wide range of tax matters at the federal, state, and international levels. His clients operate in a wide range of industries, including health care, retail, industrial and consumer product manufacturing and distribution, technology, transportation services, shipping, financial products and services, commercial real estate, and intellectual property, including computer software.
Brian assists U.S. domestic and international, private and public companies with a full range of tax issues, from inception over the life of the business, and provides counsel regarding day-to-day tax concerns. For new businesses, he works with clients to address selection of an appropriate business form, legal entity structure and appropriate tax elections. He also provides federal, multi-state and international income and other tax planning advice in connection with business expansion initiatives, acquisitions, and post-acquisition integration matters.
Brian provides strategic tax advice and counseling to individuals with respect to income tax and trust and estate planning and administration, including assistance with succession planning to allow the transfer of closely held businesses to the next generation at nominal tax cost. He also has experience with elder law issues.
Brian advises taxpayers in disputes with federal, state and local tax authorities, representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service, Massachusetts Department of Revenue, Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board, various Departments of Revenue and other tax state and local tax authorities. He assists with the administration and resolution of U.S. domestic and international tax audits. Brian also counsels property owners in obtaining property tax abatements.
