John Demeter is a senior associate in the Corporate Practice Group. He joined the firm in 2007.
Practice
Mr. Demeter’s practice involves representing early and late-stage private companies primarily in the technology and life sciences industries in financing transactions, as well as counseling them on formation, equity and compensation matters. Mr. Demeter’s venture capital experience includes representing investors and issuers in early and late stage equity and debt financing transactions. In addition, Mr. Demeter represents public and private companies in various mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to joining WilmerHale, Mr. Demeter practiced with a boutique employment law firm in San Francisco, where he represented clients in litigation and administrative actions, counseled clients on various employment issues and negotiated executive employment agreements and severance packages.

Professional Activities
Mr. Demeter is a member of the American Bar Association and has served as an assistant professor of legal writing at the University of San Francisco School of Law.
Pro Bono and Community Activities
Mr. Demeter has represented more than ten victims of domestic violence and their children in securing U-Visa temporary legal status and work eligibility in the United States. Mr. Demeter also leads the Palo Alto office’s Citizen Schools mock trial program. Citizen Schools is a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing after-school education for middle-school children.
