Presley, J. Hobson

Richard J. Davies received his B.A. in Natural Sciences, with a concentration in physics, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1983. In 1986 he graduated from the Law School of the State University of New York, where he was a member of its Moot Court Board.

Mr. Davies is a shareholder of Powell, Trachtman, Logan, Carrle & Lombardo and his practice focuses on the representation of engineers, architects, and other design professionals, as well as manufacturers of complex products. He regularly acts as their consultant and advocate to address nearly all aspects of their professional practice, particularly those relating to risk management, beginning with contract formation and negotiations and continuing through all phases of a project.

He regularly defends design professionals in actions and proceedings initiated against them before courts, arbitrators, licensing boards, and mediators in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) proceedings. For example, Mr. Davies regularly handles cases involving: errors, omissions, and other claimed defects affecting structural, mechanical, plumbing and fire protection systems, as well as accessibility (claimed violations of ADA, FHA, state or local accessibility requirements) in industrial, commercial and residential buildings; schedule impact ( e.g. delay, acceleration and inefficiency) and extras claims in large public construction projects, including public transportation systems (such as those arising from construction of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, the Kimmel Center, Lehigh Tunnel No.2 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike System, and various PennDOT projects); licensing prosecutions; and serious personal injury/wrongful death claims arising from construction projects.

Mr. Davies regularly lectures on professional liability issues for engineers and architects and other design professionals, and is a speaker at seminars and lectures sponsored by various professional societies (e.g. AIA, PSPE, etc.) addressing issues relating to: licensing, contract negotiations, code requirements and design standards, copyright, construction administration and litigation avoidance and management. He has also authored numerous articles on these subjects as well.

Mr. Davies has substantial experience in various state and federal courts and alternative dispute resolution forums and is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.
