Michael Platt practices in the area of complex commercial litigation relating to securities class actions, shareholder lawsuits, contract disputes, and product liability claims. Michael has litigated in numerous federal and state courts, including courts in Ohio, New York, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, and Pennsylvania.
In May 2009, Michael served as second chair representing The Timken Company in a two-week jury trial (The Timken Company v. Robert Bosch LLC, No. 08-00272 (N.D. Ohio)), in which Timken asserted breach-of-contract claims against Bosch relating to the purchase of automotive front-wheel hub assemblies. The trial resulted in a complete victory for Timken, with the jury awarding Timken all past damages for Bosch's breaches of contract. The court later ordered that Timken was entitled to declaratory judgment regarding future performance of the contract.
Before joining Jones Day, Michael was associated with Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York City. While in law school, he authored "Westside Mothers and Medicaid: Will This Mean the End of Private Enforcement of Federal Funding Conditions Using Section 1983?" 51 Am. U. L. Rev. 273 (2001), which won the Lura E. Turley Prize for best student work published in the American University Law Review.
