Mel Coxwell graduated with a B.S. from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1988 and received his law degree from the Mississippi College School of Law at Jackson in 1992. He was admitted to the Mississippi Bar that same year, and later began working for the State of Mississippi as an assistant district attorney.
During his service as a prosecuting attorney, Mel Coxwell gained extensive experience in criminal law. Working in close coordination with local law enforcement, other prosecutors, and judges, he prosecuted thousands of cases. His extensive involvement in the prosecution of so many criminal cases serves him well today, providing an insightful perspective into the criminal process facing his clients.
Mel Coxwell left the District Attorney's Office to go into private practice as a partner at Duggan, Coxwell & Lemon, PLLC. He currently manages his own practice as a sole proprietor at Mel Coxwell, P.A. and focuses his practice on family law, criminal defense, and civil litigation. His law office is located in Brandon, Mississippi, and he serves clients throughout Central Mississippi, in cities such as Jackson, Clinton, Pearl, Ridgeland, and Madison. Mel Coxwell is active in Rankin County, serving as President of the Rankin County Bar Association, Vice-President of the Rankin County Rotary Club, a board member of his neighborhood association, and a member of First United Methodist Church in Brandon, Mississippi.
