Petersen, Charles E.

As a partner with Johnston, Stannard, Klesner, Burbidge & Fitzgerald, PLC in Iowa City, IA, Shawn offers general practice services including, but not limited to, criminal law, personal injury, litigation, business law and contracts, real estate, and wills and trusts. An Iowa native born and raised in Dyersville, IA, Shawn received his B.S. degree in psychology from the University of Iowa in 2002 and his J.D. from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, IL in 2005.

Prior to joining Johnston, Stannard, Klesner, Burbidge & Fitzgerald, PLC, Shawn practiced with the law firm of David Goldstein and Associates, LLC in Chicago, IL, practicing in real estate and business law and contracts. While attending John Marshall Law School, Shawn clerked for the law firm of Daley and George, Ltd.

Shawn has been admitted to the Illinois Bar (2005), the U.S. District Court Northern District of Illinois (2007), the Iowa Bar (2007), and the U.S. District Court Southern District of Iowa (2010).

Shawn also teaches Introduction to Business Law at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa City. He is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association, the Iowa Association for Justice, the American Bar Association, and is a participating attorney with the Iowa Title Guaranty.

Shawn resides in Iowa City with his wife and daughter and chocolate lab, Oliver, who frequently greets new clients at the office. Shawn enjoys hiking Hickory Hill Park, attending Hawkeye football games, and dining in Iowa City's many local restaurants.
