Charles Fiedler serves as head of the New Markets Tax Credit practice area of the firm's Corporate Services Practice Group (comprised of the municipal and corporate law groups).
Born in Seattle, Washington, Charles has spent nearly his entire legal professional career in Michigan and now divides his practice between the firm's Detroit and Seattle offices.
After completing law school in 1984, Charles practiced law with a Michigan-based boutique law firm focused on corporate and commercial transactions. He was involved with several initiatives for economic development and job creation in Michigan, including the Michigan Biotechnology Institute (now part of Michigan State University), the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the Michigan Magnet Fund (MMF), which has received tax credit allocations of $120 million under the federal New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program. Charles served as general counsel to the MEDC from 2002 to 2004. As counsel to the MMF and other community development corporations, he has been involved in most aspects of the closing of thirteen NMTC transactions in Michigan with an aggregate project value of over $300 million, including a project to establish the motion picture industry in Michigan.
Charles' outside interests include movies and music. He is one of the founders of a recently launched social networking web site for movie professionals and fans and a successful DVD production company. Other extracurricular activities include mountain climbing and open water swimming.
