Carmen D. Contreras-Martinez concentrates her practice in complex commercial litigation, securities and business litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Contreras-Martinez was involved in some of the largest class action and litigation matters in South Florida. She was on the trial team that represented 700,000 doctors and medical societies against ten HMO’s in the nation’s largest and most successful class-action lawsuit against the managed care industry. Ms. Contreras-Martinez also handles receivership work having served as counsel for court-appointed Receivers, including the receiver for Mutual Benefits Corporation, the nation’s largest viatical settlement company, the receiver for Creative Capital Consortium and related entities, involved in a $68 million dollar Ponzi scheme, and the receiver for All Dream Vacations Corporation and its affiliates involved in a multi-million dollar consumer fraud scheme.

Prior to law school, Ms. Contreras-Martinez was a business executive in New York City for Citicorp’s Retail Bank Division. She was an Assistant Vice President and Assistant Branch Manager for the bank’s Wall Street and Fulton Street Branches as well as an authorized commercial lender and licensed investment counselor.

Ms. Contreras-Martinez is an active member in professional organizations such as the Cuban American Bar Association (CABA), the Florida Association of Women Lawyers, the Miami-Dade County Defense Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, and the Miami-Dade County Bar Association. She is also a member of the Harvard Schools Committee for the Southern Florida Region and has been recognized as a “Top Lawyer” by the South Florida Legal Guide.

Ms. Contreras-Martinez is a member of the Florida Bar and admitted to practice before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. Ms. Contreras-Martinez earned her Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School and her Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Sociology from Harvard University. While in law school, she was recognized by Who’s Who’ Among American Law Students for three consecutive years.
