Don Ferguson joined Grant Kovacs Norell as an associate in 2012. Don articled with an Insurance Defence Litigation Boutique in Ontario before moving to British Columbia in 2011. Since his call to the bar in 2011, Don has focused on three principal areas of practice: personal injury defence, intellectual property law, and business law.

Don's practice in personal injury litigation spans motor vehicle accidents, occupier's liability and product liability. Don acts primarily for corporations and insurers in defending personal injury actions.

Don's practice in intellectual property law spans patent law, copyright law, and trademark law. Don has an extensive background in the technology sector. He has engaged in medical research for three years, completing a Masters thesis on kidney disease, and has published research on immunology and cystic fibrosis in peer-reviewed journals. Don has also spent nine years in the software industry, leading the design of enterprise software for Fortune 500 clients across Canada, the United States and Europe.

Don's focus in business law is directed at structuring internal and external corporate relationships to facilitate business objectives and comply with regulatory requirements. Don has significant experience in the business sector. He created a technology company in 2000 and ran it for several years, serving clients in Vancouver, Victoria, Switzerland, and Germany.

Outside of work, Don provides pro-bono legal services to a variety of charities and sits on the Board of the Stanley Park Ecological Society. In his spare time, Don enjoys skiing, snowboarding, hiking, rock climbing, scuba diving, wind surfing, sailing and swing dancing.

Don is fluent in French and English.
