Parker, Martha N.

James E. Colleran, Sr., Esquire- obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of Scranton in 1965 and his J.D. degree from Villanova University School of Law in 1968. Upon completion of law school, Mr. Colleran served as the sole law clerk to the late Honorable Michael J. Eagen, Justice (later Chief Justice) of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. 

After the clerkship, Mr. Colleran began his practice of law with a well-respected firm, trying major civil jury cases in venues throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  In 1995, Mr. Colleran founded "The Colleran Firm" and maintains a large and vigorous practice throughout eastern and middle Pennsylvania, particularly in Philadelphia.

In over fourtyyears of intense practice, Mr. Colleran has tried well over 100 major civil trials to verdict. While most of those trials were in Philadelphia, he has also tried complete cases in Berks, Bucks, Chester, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Montgomery, Montour, Northampton and Schuylkill counties.  Mr. Colleran has tried civil cases to verdict in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.  He has also tried and won a major civil case in the Supreme Court of New York in Manhattan. 

Over the last fifteen years, Mr. Colleran has predominantly represented plaintiffs in medical malpractice cases but continues to represent injured plaintiffs in general personal injury matters and product liability cases. During that time, Mr. Colleran has achieved many multimillion dollar verdicts and settlements.

- $8,000,000 settlement on behalf of a man who sustained catastrophic injuries while working in a construction zone

- $7,500,000 Philadelphia County jury award on behalf of a 15-year-old boy who suffered a below-the-knee amputation due to substandard medical care after breaking his ankle during a football game

- $7,250,000 settlement on behalf of brain-injured child

- $4,900,000 Luzerne County jury award on behalf a woman who suffered a substantial bleed leading to permanent neurologic injury as a consequence of surgical error

- $4,800,000 Philadelphia County jury award on behalf of a woman who sustained a host of complications after a suffering a massive bleed caused by medical negligence during a cesarian section

- $4,500,000 Philadelphia County jury award on behalf of the Estate of a woman who died as a consequence of medical negligence the day following a hysterectomy

- $4,200,000 settlement on behalf of brain-injured child, a $3,000,000 settlement on behalf of the Estate of a woman who died shortly following childbirth

- $2,900,000 Philadelphia County jury award on behalf of the Estate of a man who died after his cardiac issues were not appropriately addressed

- $2,100,000 Philadelphia County jury award on behalf of a man left with cognitive and motor impairment after suffering a delay in diagnosis and treatment of encephalitis

- $1,700,000 Bucks County jury award on behalf of a man who suffered permanent neurologic injury after his brain hemorrhage went untimely diagnosed.

As a result of his extraordinary achievements, Mr. Colleran has been a frequent faculty member and lecturer at many Continuing Legal Educations courses and seminars over the years, including those sponsored by PBI, and the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Trial Lawyers organizations.

- Mr. Colleran also makes frequent television appearances in order to discuss topics involving medical malpractice and other personal injury issues and has annually been recognized as a Pennsylvania "SuperLawyer" since it began in 1999.
