A 26-year-old female was driving along the Beltline in Paducah, Kentucky, when an oncoming pickup truck swerved into her lane of travel and hit her head-on. The truck was operated by an admittedly drunk driver. Suit was filed on behalf of the young mother's estate and her four-year-old child in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky at Paducah. The case was settled prior to trial. A structured settlement was reached under which the defendant's insurance carrier will pay the child $6.5 million over her lifetime.

$2.1 million jury verdict for injured railroad engineer

A 49-year-old railroad engineer fell from a locomotive rupturing a lumbar disk. After surgery, he was unable to return to his regular job as a railroad engineer. He sought other employment, earning approximately $20,000 per year. The railroad refused to settle and suit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky at Paducah. A jury awarded $2.1 million to the railroad engineer for lost wages, medical expenses, pain and suffering.

$1.3 million settlement for diving accident resulting in permanent paralysis

A SI.3 million settlement, including all available insurance, was reached for a college student who dove into a swimming pool in Lexington, Kentucky, striking his head on the bottom of the pool. The case was filed in the Fayette Circuit Court.

U.S. Military aircraft pilot recovers for injuries in helicopter crash

An aircraft pilot recovered for back and neck injuries suffered in a helicopter crash. The helicopter spun into an uncommanded right roll and crashed due to a manufacture defect. A Paducah jury held the helicopter manufacturer liable for the accident. The case against the manufacturer was settled for an undisclosed amount.

$860,000 settlement during trial for wrongful death of college professor

A 29-year-old professor of agriculture at the University of Kentucky was killed in an automobile wreck near Cape Girardeau, Missouri. when an oncoming tractor-trailer truck skidded into the professor's lane of travel. Fortunately, his wife and children were not seriously injured. Suit was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri at Cape Girardeau. During jury selection, the case settled for $860,000.

$680,000 settlement for the estate of 59-vear-old man

A 59-year-old man was operating a motor vehicle when he was struck in the rear by a tractor-trailer truck. The driver of the truck was operating in violation of rules and regulations of the Interstate Commerce Commission. The case was settled before trial for $680,000.

$469,342 Jurv verdict for automobile accident victim

A 49-year-old disabled gentleman was involved in an automobile accident with a pizza delivery person, suffering low back and neck injuries. Efforts at settlement were unsuccessful, and the case proceeded to trial before the McCracken Circuit Court The jury awarded $154,342 in past and future medical expenses and $315,000 for past and future mental and physical suffering.

A Paducah man overpaid taxes to the Commonwealth of Kentucky when he sold his business. The state refused to refund the excess taxes and litigation resulted in the Court of Appeals of Kentucky ordering the Revenue Cabinet to repay the businessman $440,000.

A Paducah company filed an antitrust action against a Houston natural gas supplier who was charging higher prices to the Paducah distributor than to retail customers. Price discrimination allegations under the Robinson-Pattman Act were verified resulting in a settlement The Paducah company successfully recovered for the antitrust violation in the amount of $425,000.

A towboat engineer descending the stairs on a motor vessel slipped and feu injuring his back and requiring lumbar surgery. In a land condemnation case resulting from TVA's taking of an easement across .59 acres of land hi Christian County, Kentucky, TVA offered a settlement of $10,000 before trial. A federal jury awarded $175,000.

Two west McCracken County farmers sustained crop damage as a result of sulfur dioxide emissions from TVA Shawnee Steam Plant and Electric Energy, Inc. The plants denied liability and the case was tried before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky at Paducah. A jury awarded the farmers $144,000 for crop damage and the award was upheld by the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit

Paducah company wins patent infringement case

A Paducah company which owned patents protecting railroad switching devices it manufactured filed a patent infringement suit against a competitor who began manufacturing a similar switch. A determination was made that the patent had been infringed upon and the Paducah company prevailed.
