Van Ellis is a partner in the Corporate Department of WilmerHale and practices in the Technology Transactions and Licensing Group.

Practice

Mr. Ellis concentrates his practice on technology-based collaborations, joint ventures and licensing arrangements. He has extensive experience in a wide variety of technology-based transactions and corporate matters, including licensing, research and development, outsourcing, collaborations and joint ventures, manufacturing and supply arrangements, technology transfers and acquisitions, and the protection of intellectual property. His clients are active in a wide range of industries, including life sciences, financial services, aviation and defense, and many aspects of the technology sector. In the life sciences field, Mr. Ellis routinely represents multinational companies (including their pharmaceuticals, biologics, diagnostics and consumer care/OTC divisions) in a full range of transactions arising during the life cycle of a product. These transactions include arrangements in the areas of drug discovery, research and development, licensing of development stage and approved products, manufacturing and supply, and marketing and co-promotion.

Community Involvement

Mr. Ellis is a member of the firm's Pro Bono Committee and actively represents, on a pro bono basis, a number of organizations, including Horton's Kids, Inc. (a DC-based tutoring and mentoring organization serving children in Washington, DC's Anacostia neighborhood), Servicemembers Legal Defense Network and the national headquarters of PFLAG.
