Ben Nelson earned his law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law. While attending law school, Ben served as the Lead Articles Editor for the Journal of Dispute Resolution. He was a Moot Court Finalist and recipient of the Bar Plan Foundation scholarship, which is awarded to law students who demonstrate the highest ethics and professionalism in the classroom and the community. Ben also spent a summer during law school studying Comparative Constitutional Law, Comparative Criminal Justice and Dispute Resolution in Cape Town, South Africa. During law school, Ben interned in the Labor Division of the Missouri Attorney General’s Office where he focused on workers’ compensation law. Prior to joining Truman E. Allen, P.C., Ben practiced as an associate at the law firm of Jones, Schneider and Stevens, LLC, also in Columbia. Throughout his career Ben has successfully advocated for his clients in a variety of forums. He has won judgments and verdicts for clients in civil bench trials and jury trials, has won dismissals and acquittals for clients, and has successfully represented clients in arbitrations and mediations. Ben has served as the past treasurer of the Boone County Bar Association. He has also served as the Chair of the Boone County Bar Association's Legal Aid Committee from 2008-2010. Ben is a volunteer attorney for the Mid-Missouri Legal Services Pro Bono Program and serves on Mid-Missouri Legal Services's Pro Bono Advisory Committee. In 2010, Ben received the Missouri Bar Young Lawyers Section Pro Bono Publico Award in recognition of pro bono service to those in need of legal assistance. Ben’s primary areas of practice include Personal Injury Litigation, including Auto Accidents, Premises Liability, Product Liability, and Wrongful Death. Ben also focuses on Family Law and Criminal Defense. Ben resides in Columbia, Missouri with his wife Allison and daughters Abigail and Clara. He is a member of the Crossing Church.
