Mr. Nagy is a native of Rockingham County and graduated with honors from Broadway High School in 1995.  After graduation, Mr. Nagy was admitted to and attended the University of Virginia where he majored in biology and graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in 1999.

Mr. Nagy was subsequently admitted to and attended the Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State).  During his second year at Penn State, Mr. Nagy worked as an intern with the Pennsylvania Department of State in the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Regulation located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  During his third year, Mr. Nagy was a member of the Penn State Elder Law Clinic where he was primarily responsible for counseling clients regarding debtors rights and bankruptcy.  Mr. Nagy graduated from Penn State with his Juris Doctor in May of 2002 and passed the Virginia Bar Exam later that year.

Mr. Nagy began his professional legal career in 2003 when he was hired as an associate attorney by the law firm of Davies, Barrell, Will, Lewellyn and Edwards, PLC in Culpeper, Virginia.  While practicing in Culpeper, Mr. Nagy represented clients with regard to a wide range of legal issues including traffic infractions, criminal law, custody and visitation, divorce, landlord/tenant issues, personal injury matters, collection matters and general civil litigation.  During his years in Culpeper, Mr. Nagy was a member of the Culpeper Bar and represented clients in the Circuit, General District and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts for Culpeper County.  In addition, Louis represented clients on various matters in the counties of Albemarle, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock and Spotsylvania.

Following the death of his father in 2005, Mr. Nagy and his family moved back to Rockingham County where he was hired to work as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the County of Rockingham and the City of Harrisonburg.  Between January of 2006 and December of 2012, Mr. Nagy honorably served the citizens of Rockingham County and Harrisonburg prosecuting hundreds of felony and misdemeanor cases in the Circuit, District and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts. 

During his time with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Mr. Nagy prosecuted cases involving nearly every type of criminal infraction including: traffic infractions, DUI and other alcohol related crimes, vehicular homicide, malicious wounding and other types of assault, rape, kidnapping, burglary, larceny, fraud, forgery, possession and distribution of marijuana and other narcotics, crimes involving the illegal possession or use of firearms, and gang related crimes.  In addition, Mr. Nagy was responsible for handling nearly all of the cases involving the forfeiture of narcotics related assets and expungements.

In 2008, Mr. Nagy was cross-designated by the Office of the United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia to be a Federal Prosecutor.  This cross-designation with the U.S. Attorney’s Office gave Mr. Nagy the ability to prosecute cases in both state and federal court.  Between 2008 and 2012 Mr. Nagy prosecuted a number of cases on behalf of the United States of America involving persons charged with the illegal distribution of cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin and other narcotics in violation of federal law, persons charged with illegally using or illegally possessing firearms in violation of federal law and, persons charged with the distribution of child pornography across state and federal lines.

While employed with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Mr. Nagy was recruited as an instructor at the Central Shenandoah Valley Criminal Justice Academy which is located in Weyers Cave, Virginia.  During his seven year tenure with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Mr. Nagy was one of the primary instructors for the Basic Law Enforcement Class where he was responsible for teaching criminal law and procedure to prospective law enforcement officers including the law of search and seizure, the rules of evidence, and courtroom testimony/presentation.

Since 2008, Mr. Nagy has been an Adjunct Professor of Business and Hospitality Law at James Madison University.  Mr. Nagy currently teaches Hospitality Law in the School of Hospitality, Sport and Recreation Management.
