Charles Morse has far-ranging experience in the fields of products liability and punitive damages. He also serves clients on a wide variety of legal issues arising in cases of all types in federal and state courts and arbitral tribunals throughout the country. Much of his work involves briefing and arguing appeals and trial court motions.

Charles has played a leading role in Jones Day's national representation of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in its smoking and health cases. He helped write the briefs in the Engle appeal, which culminated in the Florida Supreme Court's decision (Engle v. Liggett Group, Inc., 945 So. 2d 1246 (Fla. 2006)), and more recently has served as the chief legal adviser to the trial teams overseeing the thousands of "Engle progeny" cases that have been filed against Reynolds in Florida state and federal courts. Charles was on the trial team that secured the first defense verdict for the tobacco industry in an Engle progeny case (Gelep v. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Case No. 98-006584-CI-13 (Fla. 6th Cir. Ct. 2009)).

In recent years, he has represented Bombardier and Breed Technologies in major matters.

Charles is a member of the American Law Institute. He also is a member of the Harvard Law Review's Board of Overseers. Charles has handled a number of pro bono matters, including two appeals that he argued in federal courts of appeals and several petitions for certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court.
