Synopsis of Pertinent Experience: Robert joined DFISL in 2003 as an associate. He presently divides his time between civil defense litigation (allegations of commercial liability; premises liability, third party criminal conduct and/or intentional torts; products liability; and wrongful termination), insurance coverage (allegations of bad faith; absence of duty to defend and/or indemnify insured due to lack of coverage; and actions for contribution, subrogation and declaratory relief), and other legal matters (allegations of copyright infringement; professional malpractice; and actions for breach of contract).
Robert represents a diverse array of individuals and businesses, including without limitation restaurants, bars, nightclubs, commercial properties, residential apartment complexes, medical groups, motion picture distribution companies, sound designers, artists, real and commercial property investment groups, and PR companies.
In 2008, Robert defended several limited liability companies, individual investors, and their counsel in connection with a lawsuit filed by a fellow investor pertaining to the acquisition and development of a large commercial and residential complex. Following a three-week arbitration, which Robert second chaired, the arbitrator rendered an award against the plaintiff and in favor of Robert's clients. Despite plaintiff's claim for $1.5 million in damages, dissolution of the LLCs, punitive damages, and attorneys' fees and costs, the arbitrator found in favor of the defense and awarded Robert's clients their attorneys' fees and costs in an amount exceeding $500,000, as the prevailing parties.
Interests: In his spare time, Robert works with several artists and local art galleries to assist in their development, including the procurement of sponsorship opportunities and collaborative ventures with other businesses. Robert is also an avid record (vinyl) collector.
