Gordana Misovski is a first-generation Serbian-American whose parents were born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia and moved to the United States in order to provide a better life for their family. As the child of immigrants, Gordana witnessed firsthand the prejudice her parents dealt with because of their accents and flawed English. A pivotal memory of hers is being in the car with her mother who was pulled over for a wrong turn and the belittling attitude and unfair treatment she received from the on-duty officer. It was embarrassing and hurtful. Gordana knew even at a young age that it was wrong.
Years later, as a student at Wayne State University, Gordana tailored her education to set forth on the path toward law school and studied political science, criminal justice and legal studies. Upon completion of her Bachelor of Science degree, she catapulted herself directly into obtaining her J.D. at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. During her time as a law student, she served as the President of the student chapter of the National Lawyers Guild (a civil rights organization), where she built the biggest and most successful chapter in Michigan and was awarded Law Student of the Year for her dedication to civil rights and social causes.
After passing the Michigan Bar in 2003, Gordana continued to focus her career in the area of civil rights with heavy attention to police misconduct, municipal liability, personal injury and criminal law. She is heavily involved in community organizations including the NAACP, where she serves as the co-chair of the Thurgood Marshall Social Advocacy Education Initiative. She believes it a voluntary obligation to help those that are less fortunate, and who have been wronged and assume they cannot afford legal representation. This professional crusade is a testimony to her work with Romano Law. She believes so strongly in civil liberties that she happily devotes her time to ensuring that everyone has a chance to protect their rights. She prides herself on returning every phone call and being given the opportunity to take on someone else’s plight.
Gordana is admitted to the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan.
Gordana resides in Metro Detroit with her husband and their dog Lola. An avid baker, she narrates her own blog (www.thegigishow.com) where she tackles the fun loving world of desserts and confectionaries. She defines herself as a Freedom Fighter first and a baker second. She is fluent in the Serbian language and has been known to bust out a jig or two at the annual Ravanica Grape Harvest Ball.
