"This firm values attorneys with a special talent for working with people in difficult or emotional situations."
Emily Miskel graduated in the top 15% of her class from Stanford University and received her law degree from Harvard Law School. She loves practicing family law because she can combine her analytical and problem-solving skills with her passion for improving the lives of individuals and families.
Before becoming a lawyer, Ms. Miskel was a mechanical engineer. She worked for a consulting firm whose clients included multinational oil companies. After graduating from Harvard Law School, Ms. Miskel practiced environmental and intellectual property litigation for a large, AmLaw 200-listed law firm in Dallas.
Her trial experience includes large, complex litigation in state courts, federal courts, and even the International Trade Commission. She also trained at the Family Law Trial Institute in Houston, Texas.
In addition to her courtroom trial skills, she is also trained in alternative dispute resolution methods, including mediation, arbitration, and collaborative law. Her articles on arbitration have been published in Industry Today and the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas & Energy Law. Her training in negotiation benefits clients by increasing the options for reaching resolution. Ms. Miskel's focus is always on preserving a client's assets and relationships with children while minimizing litigation.
She brings to family law her business knowledge and strong technology skills. She publishes regularly on issues relating to electronic evidence, including articles for the State Bar of Texas and the Dallas Bar Association. She also blogs about current events in family law.
Ms. Miskel volunteers with several non-profit organizations in Dallas, teaching personal finance and budgeting. She has worked with New Friends New Life, Turner Twelve, and Central Dallas Ministries/TRAC. Her ability to counsel clients on their individual financial decisions is an added benefit of her family law practice.
She serves on the boards of the Collin County Young Lawyers Association and the Dallas-Fort Worth Stanford Alumni Association. She is a member of the 2010 Leadership Class of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers.
