Jeannie D. Michalski, Esq., graduated magna cum laude from Nazareth College and attended the University of Dayton School of Law. She was awarded a community service scholarship. She began her legal career by serving as a judicial clerk and interning at the Legal Aid Society of Rochester. Ms. Michalski has since practiced law in New York State for ten years.
Ms. Michalski served as an Assistant District Attorney in Monroe County for seven years, where she successfully prosecuted hundreds of felony and misdemeanor cases in local, city, county and supreme courts. Now, in addition to defending people in criminal court, she also represents individuals in family court on custody, visitation, abuse and neglect, support and adoption matters.
After leaving the District Attorney's office, Ms. Michalski worked with battered women as a project supervisor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine's Laboratory for Interpersonal Violence and Victimization. This project took place at the Domestic Violence Court, in Rochester, New York. After her experiences there, she was driven to learn all the facets of family law so she could better help individuals facing these complicated legal situations. She then took a job as a public defender in family court where she was inundated with cases pertaining to child custody, support, visitation, neglect and abuse proceedings, permanency hearings and integrated cases that involved both a family court and a criminal court case.
Ms. Michalski has made presentations to community groups on the impact of domestic violence on communities and families. She has taught legal courses at Finger Lakes Community College, Monroe Community College, St. John Fisher, and the Rochester Police Academy.
