As an estates and trust attorney, Alison advises clients on estate taxes, gift taxes, and generation-skipping taxes; charitable trusts and foundations, the marital deduction, and disability planning. She is involved in drafting of wills, trusts, antenuptial agreements, health care directives and powers of attorney. Alison also helps to administer estates, trusts, conservatorships and guardianships and, when necessary, is involved in litigation for estates which generally involves will contests or tax controversies.
Alison understands the nature of nonprofit organizations and the environment in which they operate. From working with organizations funded by private families to public charities, she assists in the preparation of articles of incorporation and bylaws, applications to obtain IRS recognition of tax-exempt status and applications to the IRS for letter rulings on various proposed transactions by charities.
Alison is the author of "Taking of Access: Minnesota Supreme Court Declines to Allow Admission of Evidence of Diminished Access Due to Installation of a Median in a Takings Case – County of Anoka v. Blaine Building Corporation, 556 N.W.2d 331 (Minn. 1997)" in the William Mitchell Law Review.
