Tom Mellen has lived in Vermilion County for more than forty years. After graduating from the University of Illinois College of Law, he began his legal career as a prosecutor. In 1976, Tom decided to go in to private practice, opening his law firm as a sole practitioner.
Tom is married to the former Nanette Rice, a Danville native. They are the proud parents of five adult children: Tom (Shelene) Mellen of Cincinatti, Ohio; Dawn (Jarrod) Dobbs of Tampa, Florida; Alexander (Fabiana) White of Houston, Texas; Christopher White of Dallas, Texas; and Elizabeth Mellen of Tampa, Florida.
They have two granddaughters.
Tom has been very active in his community, serving on the local Board of Education for twelve years, eight of those as its president. He has enjoyed coaching children in youth sports over more than two decades, coaching baseball, softball, basketball and soccer. He currently is serving as Vice President of the local Rotary Club and is on the Board of Trustees of St. James United Methodist Church. Additionally, he is a member and past president of the Vermilion County Bar Association.
Tom is a sports enthusiast and avid reader. He enjoys playing golf, attending local high school sports and participating in his book club. Tom and Nanette are proud to call Vermilion County home.
