Attorney David McKenzie, a North Carolina native, was raised in Clemson, South Carolina.

Attorney McKenzie is an experienced trial and transactional attorney. From 2007 to 2011, David tried over forty cases to verdict in both District and Superior Court. During this same time, he supervised or drafted many contracts germane to his areas of expertise.

David's practice areas include General Civil Litigation, Intellectual Property Litigation (Copyright, Trademark, Entertainment, Trade Secret, Art, Unfair Competition, Media/Mass Communication, and Patent Litigation), Land Use Litigation (Zoning, Municipal Ordinances, HOA, & Environmental Litigation.), Business & Corporate Litigation (including matters involving securities, negotiable instruments, and fiduciary duty), and Criminal Litigation.

Recently, Attorney McKenzie's work included time at the Duke University School of Law. At Duke Law, he was instrumental in bringing to press three scholarly books on Intellectual Property law-- including, but not limited to, a leading casebook on Intellectual Property and No Law: Intellectual Property in the Absolute Image the First Amendment (Stanford University Press).

David is active in the Durham and greater NC communities. A sampling of his involvement includes: Fourteenth Judicial District Bar (Durham Bar), Board of Directors; St. Paul's Lutheran Church (member); North Carolina Bar Association Section on Intellectual Property Law; North Carolina Bar Association Section on Sports & Entertainment Law; North Carolina Bar Association on Land Use Law; North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers; American Bar Association; ABA Forum on Sports & Entertainment Law; ABA Section on General Civil Litigation; and, the ABA Section on Intellectual Property Law. David serves on the governing councils of both the Sports & Entertainment & Intellectual Property sections of the North Carolina Bar Association. Locally, David is a Board of Director of and for the Durham Bar, and is a founding member of the Durham Bar’s Public Service Committee. Finally, David is the former Editor of the NC Bar Association's Intellectual Property Section's "IP Links."

Attorney McKenzie is admitted to the North Carolina State Bar and the federal bars for the Eastern District of North Carolina (Raleigh) and the Middle District of North Carolina (Greensboro).   

David lives in west Durham with his wife, Angela, a Tennessee native, and their two very young children, Mary Margaret and Laura Ann. In his spare time, he "hangs out" with his daughters, watches baseball, plays golf (badly), listens to bluegrass, and roots for his beloved Clemson Tigers or Duke Blue Devils.
