Kevin McIntyre's practice is focused on energy law. He represents clients in a variety of settings, principally relating to governmental regulation of energy markets and the electric and gas utility and gas pipeline industries, with particular emphases on compliance and enforcement investigations, energy marketing and trading, market-based rates and other competition issues, and electric reliability standards. Kevin also has extensive experience in utility and pipeline rate litigation, utility mergers and acquisitions, renewable energy transactions, negotiation and drafting of energy contracts, development of non-utility electric generating facilities, certification of exempt wholesale generators, and hydroelectric licensing and compliance matters.
Kevin serves on the advisory board of the Corporate Counsel Institute and is a member of the Energy Bar Association. Along with his Jones Day energy colleagues, Kevin authored an authoritative reference, The Energy Policy Act of 2005, for LexisNexis Matthew Bender. Kevin also is coauthor of The Electric Power Purchasing Handbook (Executive Enterprises, 1st and 2d eds., 1989, 1993) and several annual updates to the American Gas Association's treatise, Regulation of the Gas Industry (Matthew Bender). His pro bono practice includes regular assistance at the D.C. Bar Advice and Referral Clinic and representations of individuals seeking asylum in the United States. His volunteer activities also include service on the board of governors of the Georgetown University Alumni Association and previous service as chairman of Georgetown's Law Alumni Board and national chairman of the Georgetown Law Annual Fund. An active lecturer, Kevin speaks regularly on topics of interest in the energy industry.
