Alec J. McGinn's technical background is in electrical and computer engineering. He has particular experience in power supply systems and computer architecture, as well as database, network, and internet technologies.
Mr. McGinn earned his law degree cum laude from Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark Law School, where he was a lead articles editor for the BYU Law Review. He also clerked at the Utah Supreme Court at the end of his second year of law school. Prior to joining Kunzler & McKenzie, Mr. McGinn was an attorney at a general business litigation firm in Salt Lake City where he gained experience in various aspects of litigation in both state and federal courts, and particular experience in bankruptcy. Mr. McGinn has represented clients involved in trademark, copyright, and patent litigation before both federal district and appellate courts. He has particular experience in handling counterfeiting actions and preliminary injunctions. Mr. McGinn has also drafted and prosecuted patent applications covering a wide range of electrical and computer hardware and software technologies. He is also experienced in preparing written opinions, licensing agreements, and contracts.
