McKinnon, Daniel V.

With over 42 years of experience in the courtroom Mr. McKinnon is an accomplished litigator and one of the founding partners of the firm McKinnon & Harwood, LLC and its predecessor McKinnon & Fortunato.

Beginning his career as a criminal attorney, he has tried a variety of cases ranging from first degree murder, arson murder and federal armed bank robbery to simple assault.  His practice is presently focused on civil litigation, contract law, corporate representation, as well as representation of a number of cities, towns and subdivisions of the State of Rhode Island.  He has resolved a number of cases by verdict or settlement with recoveries in excess of one million dollars.  He has represented clients before the courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the States of Rhode Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Florida.

Mr. McKinnon presently serves as a Trustee of the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket.  He was formerly an elected official of the City of Pawtucket, serving 14 years on the Pawtucket School Committee.  He was the founder and is the chairman emeritus of the Rhode Island Renal Institute, a Rhode Island non-profit corporation serving people with renal failure.  He has served as national campaign chairman for Moses Brown, a preparatory school in the City of Providence, and as national chairman for alumni development for Providence College.  He was the recipient of the Providence College Alumni Service Award and the recipient of the Dorothy Lowman Award given by the Rhode Island Bar Association.   

Mr. McKinnon is a member of the Rhode Island and Nebraska Bar Association and the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island and Nebraska and the First Circuit Court of Appeals.  He has also been admitted Pro Hac Vice in numerous state courts.  Mr. McKinnon served in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of captain.  Mr. McKinnon graduated from Providence College in 1967 and from the Creighton University School of Law in 1970.  While attending Providence College he was a member of the varsity baseball and track teams and at Creighton University was selected by faculty to serve as staff editor for the Creighton Law Review.
